Play bocce ball
Do you find yourself uninterested in sunbathing, swimming, hiking, or cycling? Perhaps your ideal vacation involves watching football on TV, even though you’re a social individual. When given the chance, you enjoy outdoor games with friends, savoring the thrill of competition, laughter, and the unique adrenaline that comes from the pursuit of results in a game. If this sounds like you, consider trying bocce ball—the game that brings together people from Southern European countries like Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey and – Croatia.
Bocce ball rules!
Players flip a coin, and the winner can choose to serve the small ball (pallino) or pick their ball color. The serving team throws the pallino, making sure it passes the halfway point without hitting the back wall. If it does, the other team gets a chance to throw. If neither team places the pallino correctly, the serving team can place it anywhere in the allowed zone.
The team that places the pallino throws their first bocce ball, and the opposing team continues to throw until they have a ball closer to the pallino. Teams take turns throwing until all four balls are thrown. Balls must pass the halfway point to score, and those that
don’t stay on the court for potential play.Balls hitting the back wall without touching the pallino or other bocce balls are out.
Scoring occurs after all balls are thrown. Only one team scores per round, earning one point for each ball closer to the pallino than the opposing team’s closest ball. A tape measurer is provided for measurement. Questions or clarifications can be directed to the bocce host.
